Why We shifted our SOC to Australia

The world of cybersecurity is a tough one to navigate. Not just for analysts and customers, but for those hiring too. We continually hear about the cybersecurity skills shortage where we need one billion per cent more people. Ok, I exaggerate, but so do a lot of the reports that come out.

Australia has historically been lagging in getting talented security professionals through our education programs, let alone those that understand we all started on the bottom rung (I started building data centres at schools and running VAs in my spare time), understand that $120k out of uni is unreasonable and most of all, that are happy to work on a 24x7x365 rotating roster.

So, when we launched our 24x7x365 SOC almost 3 years ago, we leveraged SE Asia, the same as many have done before us and will continue to do so. We identified Manila as our base of operations as they have good English, a safe city and a large SOC provider had just launched their SOC. It was a win-win situation.

Everything has been running smoothly and we have gone from strength to strength. However, there was always the preference of Australia; first, to support our local talent, but also to guarantee our clients' data sovereignty. While we have a guarantee that all data is always stored in Australia, it would be nice to have a fully Australian presence.

Fast forward 3 years and we have some of Australia's best universities graduating some amazing talent here in Melbourne (and Perth - thanks ECU we got one of yours too) who are happy to put their knowledge to use. Combined with some large companies shifting their SOC operations overseas and leaving some amazing talent behind, the door was open.

A year ago, we started planning to shift our SOC to Melbourne. Daring to dream of a 24x7x365 SOC in Melbourne, we commenced a journey to transition all operations to Australia.

I'm happy to report, this transition has occurred and our SOC is now running 24x7x365 in Australia. It has taken a lot of time and effort from all involved, but we are already reaping the fruits of our labour seeing process improvement in the last six weeks.

As we continue on our upwards trajectory, we continue our focus on supporting local talent and working with those breaking into this amazing industry. Our base SOC package still starts at $3k/month and delivers everything you expect. Working with Triskele Labs supports Australia end-to-end and we look forward to continuing to work with some of Australia's best brands.
